Artist Statement
My work is informed by the architectural and design elements of urban space, and the ways in which these structures shape and dominate our lived experience in modern cities. I am particularly interested in how urban environments are constructed, how we move through them, and how our perception of space is directed by design and spatial planning.
Through woodblock printmaking, I explore these ideas using abstraction, with line functioning as a metaphor for constructed boundaries and negotiated space. My prints are developed in dialogue with one another; each work informs the next through a precise and repetitive process that also allows for elements of chance.
I aim to distil urban perspective to its essential components—block, line, and contrast—offsetting these with organic colour to evoke aspects of the natural world. The resulting prints are pared back and minimal, creating a sense of stillness and reflection that contrasts with the often-chaotic nature of contemporary urban life.
